Sorrow and Salvation: A Playlist for Lent

Music and remembering are intimately tied together. Just as snatch of a song overheard at a grocery store can take you back to childhood, we hope this new Lenten playlist will stir up your memories of the one who gave his lifeblood for us all.

Sing and Pray: Come, Holy Spirit!

0:46 Come Holy Spirit by Patrick Power
2:07 Come, Holy Ghost
4:46 Let That Same Spirit
6:24 Give Me Oil in my Lamp
7:35 Bless the Lord, O My Soul

While there have been many changes in our community life these past months, one thing is still true: we can sing and pray from our homes, uniting our voices in the Spirit. After all, the Holy Spirit on Pentecost was certainly not prohibited by the walls of a home. As Jesus points out, “The wind blows wherever it wants” (John 3:8, NLT).

To that end, we’d like to share one last video in anticipation of Pentecost. In the video, Jim Rolland, a longtime leader of music in the Servant Branch, sings five simple choruses and hymns from his home. Many of you will recognize them, but even if you don’t, they are all easy to pick up and sing, even without any accompaniment. You can sing along with Jim, and keep humming them throughout the day, singing and praying for the outpouring of God’s Spirit on all the earth.

Come, Holy Spirit!  Reign in our homes, our hearts and all over the world!

  9. John Krause says:

    Thank you Jim.

This past weekend my wife, Anna-Marie, and I visited a number of grave sites. We happened to be at Resurrection Cemetery. We had gone to several relatives graves and then crossed the street to see another. In crossing the road and passing in front of a parked car, I heard what sounded like a familiar voice saying, "Hi John!" It was Meg Ferber greeting us from her car. Now as I see you and listen to you praising our Lord, I can't help but picture you and our brother Don Ferber singing and harmonizing together worshipping our God. Thank you for the wonderful memories over the years and joys of being blessed by out Lord.
    In gratitude, John Krause

    Come Holy Spirit!

  11. Jerry Wind says:

I know this about you my brother that being a worship leader is to you like wood is to a tree. Worship permeates you and spills out of you like the process of exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide. I think that's something we call breathing. Thank you for breathing into us and through us the Spirit of God in worship all these years. You have been a huge part of our voice to God and I enjoy every moment when your spirit can be shared with all People of Praise like this. Hey Everyone, there is no clearer voice of the Spirit of God than Jim Rolland! Following you into worship is as natural as breathing for all of us. Of course I know these songs are not about you at all and you sharing them with us had nothing to do, for you, about people seeing you but only seeing God. Nonetheless, I have known you so long , as a non musician and a brother that I can't help but acknowledge the joy I feel having you lead just me in worship like this. It makes me see you as well as God in this moment.
